Our commitment
Recicletrônicos do Brasil wants everyone to be able to use this website, with or without a disability, on any device. We follow the Brazilian Law for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (Law No. 13,146/2015, Art. 63) and use the W3C WCAG 2.2, level AA guidelines as our reference.
Current status
Partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA. Accessibility is built directly into the website code, with no third-party plugins or "accessibility toolbars", which often get in the way of screen reader users.
What the website offers
- full keyboard navigation, with an always-visible focus indicator and a "Skip to content" link;
- headings, landmarks and labels organized for screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack);
- colors with adequate reading contrast;
- a button to pause animations, and the website respects your device's "reduce motion" setting;
- zoom up to 200% without loss of content on phones, tablets and computers;
- animated figures are read by screen readers with their final value;
- form fields with labels and error messages that are announced;
- the video only loads when you ask for it, with YouTube captions when available;
- Portuguese, English and Spanish versions, with the language declared in the code for correct pronunciation.
Known limitations
- the Jornal Futura video (2013, in Portuguese) belongs to Canal Futura and is played by YouTube; it has no transcript or audio description of its own yet;
- on very wide monitors, browser zoom scales the whole layout proportionally, so text grows less than the chosen zoom; from 250% on, the site switches to the tablet layout and text is enlarged normally;
- the final conversation happens on WhatsApp, which has its own accessibility features.
How we evaluate
Manual and automated review of code, keyboard use, contrast, zoom and the structure read by screen readers by the development team. An evaluation with users of assistive technology has not taken place yet; it is planned.
